I use a cell phone and I’m in love with Barack Obama. Apparently 71% of all cell phone users love Obama. It doesn’t mean the other 29% want John McCain and only call “Klondike 5″ numbers from their land lines.

But that’s part of an actual press release issued by PredictoMobile, which according to the “About Us” section of the release is “offering its members a game that’s on the pulse of the latest developments in entertainment and world affairs.”

First of all, who the @@#%* has time for social media? I get updates all day long that my so-called friends are reading Harry Potter or eating soup or depressed or worried about the cubs or thinking about puppies . . . who cares???!! Who created this dreadful tourrettes-like need for constant attention? I realize it’s a generational thing, but then again there are no 20-somethings on my facebook list. These are all busy, working professionals. And I’m exhausted just trying to keep up with everyone’s so-called social plans. Two of my european friends post their musings in french. Since I can’t read them, I can only assume they’re telling me that they, too, are against global warming. Or just watched “Blue Lagoon” on cable.

List firms are singing the blues, and that’s quite understandable with merchants and non profits cutting back on prospecting.

But I just checked out the Multichannel Merchant mail bin and saw where at least two list firms can save some money… by not mailing us press releases. And one brokerage it appears may be throwing money down the drain.
