USPS Does the Ol’ Bait and Switch
After waxing eloquent on the glorious virtues of automation and how its going to save companies tons of money in mailing and shipping costs, the USPS did the ol’ bait and switch. During the Mailers Technical Advisory Committee meeting back in August, Postmaster General John E. “Jack” Potter announced that there will NOT be a discount for mail sent using the new intelligent mail barcode (IMB) system.
Now, a few months later, the USPS is faced with massive losses due to the decline in mail volume corresponding with the crumbling economy. As a result, Dan G. Blair, chairman of the Postal Regulatory Commission, is predicting that the next postal increase, which more than likely will come in May 2009, will be about 5% for each class of mail.
Can it get any worse for catalogers?
