R.R. Donnelley and the Missing Inserts

Now you can understand why printers have nervous dispositions.


R.R. Donnelley filed suit against American Best Group, a firm that says it can transport “time sensitive shipments from your dock to your customer’s dock,” for allegedly botching an insert delivery.


The facts have yet to be established in court. But the narrative presented in Donnelley’s Oct. 16 complaint suggests that someone at the company is pretty stressed out. more

Mothers’ Brigade on the March

11-19-08-motrin.jpgThe moms of America are speaking to Johnson & Johnson, and they’re not just disappointed—they’re very, very mad.

What they’re up in arms about is an online commercial that J&J’s Motrin pain reliever brand released onto the Web targeting mothers and the pains they may get from carrying their babies and young children around. It’s not the attention from a pharma company that these mommy bloggers a objecting to; it’s the implication that some mothers are carrying their kids around as fashion accessories rather than as valuable bits of posterity.

And they’ve gotten J&J to pull the ad off the Web. more

How Does Urban Outfitters Keep Doing It?

Dismal retail numbers keep rolling in for most merchants. But one somehow continues to post strong sales growth and impressive profits.


Urban Outfitters recorded a 26% hike in revenue—to $478 million—for the fiscal third quarter ended Oct. 31. Better still, the apparel and home goods catalog/retailer, which in addition to its namesake brand includes Anthropologie and Free People, posted a 31% increase in net income for the quarter.


What’s more, direct-to-consumer sales jumped 41% for the quarter. And that’s with a 9% decrease in catalog circulation! more
