Mo Moss’ Thanksgiving Wish

Now it came upon the day before Thanksgiving and Mo Moss found himself, as on many other days of the year, in court.


Mo was the owner of the List Tank, a compiling company with a single product: A bankruptcy list. Having inherited the firm from his father Sy Moss, he was now doing everything he could to run it into the ground. more

Restore Your Brand Recognition

restorationhardware.jpgA catalog arrived in the mail last week, and even though it said “Restoration Hardware Gifts” I didn’t recognize is as one of the home decor retailer’s.


For one, it was black—full-bleed glossy black—with a photo of a black-hatted older gent standing next to what looks like a black vintage hotrod. The cover text wasn’t much help; it said: “The One. The Only.” The legendary. Shelby Black Hornet from Carroll Shelby’s personal collection.”


Just a few questions: Is this really Restoration Hardware? What’s a Black Hornet? And who the hell is Carroll Shelby? more

Because UPS Can

With DHL now out of the picture, at least in terms of U.S. domestic service, will we see UPS and FedEx starting to get more complacent, due to their duopolistic domination? With one less alternative in the marketplace, can they get away with caring a little bit less about the customer – or perhaps certain types of customers?


Yesterday it came to my attention that UPS has gone ahead and made a change to how its Next Day Air service operates in certain rural areas of the U.S. — without publicly informing anyone. According to what I was told, UPS has relaxed the commit times from 12 noon to “end of the day” for about 1,084 mostly rural ZIP codes. The change went into effect Nov. 17.
