I had to wear a suit to a memorial service a few weeks back. From my knees to my sternum, I looked like a muffin. Just extra belly fat popping over the maximally-stretched suit pants. Maybe the fact I switched beer from Michelob Ultra to Pabst Blue Ribbon ($14.99 a 12 pack vs. $14.00 a 30 pack… which would you choose?) didn’t help me either. more

City Fields of Bad Taxpayer Dreams

It’s a typically acerbic New York City political ploy, the suggestion that the New York Mets rename their new ballpark Citi/Taxpayer Field in recognition of those who will ultimately foot the bill for Citigroup’s bailout.

But there is more than a little irony in the suggestion from Staten Island Republicans Vincent Ignizio and James Oddo, considering the construction bill that New York City and state taxpayers were already going to pay for infrastructure costs tied to the Mets’ and Yankees’ new fields of greenback dreams.

Deck the Lawn With Tons o’ Crap

It’s very rare for me to walk to the mailbox. And unless it’s a freelance check for me in the mail, I’m not opening it. But on Black Friday I was intrigued by the Seventh Avenue Holiday Gift 2008 cover (sorry, I don’t have a scanner at home, one that is plugged in and working anyway). It’s Charlie Brown and the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree Kit.

Initial though: It’s kinda fitting this holiday season, with the country finally admitting its in a recession and all. But then also on Page 5, I saw something else of interest. more
