Helping Others At The Holidays
Talk about a gift that keeps on giving!
It’s not often that chickens and goats are your best-selling items, but that’s the case this year with the Christian Children’s Fund (CCF) 2008 Gifts of Love and Hope catalog.
As of Dec. 5, more than 1,200 chickens and goats were ordered from the gift catalog. The catalog includes more than 100 different items that range in price from $6 to several thousand dollars. These gifts are delivered by CCF staffers to children and families living in poverty around the world.
Farm animals are popular gift choices, officials say, because they provide milk and food and generate income for families in need if they sell the eggs and chicks. Other choices include life-saving medicines, medical supplies and equipment for community health centers that will help protect children from deadly diseases. Gifts of a well, treadle pump or water tank will provide clean water to children and families.
For example, the price for six chickens to be sent to a school in Gambia is $50; or vegetable seeds for a family in Ethiopia are $36; other gift choices include classroom furniture, rain gear and developmental games. What’s more, the catalog offers a special section for Children Helping Children with gifts ranging between $6 and $25. With each gift ordered from the catalog, CCF will send a gift card to recipients acknowledging the giver’s generosity in their honor.
If you’d like to make an altruistic gesture this holiday season, it might be worth checking out CCF toll free at 1-800-776-6767 Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Gifts can be ordered online at www.ChristianChildrensFund.org/Gifts.
