Veuve Clicquot Towers Above the Rest
When it comes to the champagne marketing wars, Veuve Clicquot towers above the rest. During the past ten years or so, this champagne has developed into a very powerful brand here in the U.S.
During the past week or so I have visited several different liquor stores in my area of Fairfield County CT — to stock up on bubbly and other beverages for the holidays — and I’ve been amazed at the dominance the Veuve Clicquot brand in terms of in-store displays.
For example at my local A&P liquors there’s a big, tall, round table near the register, with several dozen the familiar dark orange Veuve Clicquot boxes stacked like a tower and a tall sign bearing the familiar logo on top. I saw hanging signs and other promotional displays for the champagne elsewhere in the store too. But there were no promotions for any of the other popular brands, like Korbel – Veuve Clicquot owns the store!
I think the orange box and label — not to mention the unique logo — are what really make this brand stand out. I mean, the displays just jump right out at you.
It’s great if you’re in a rush — you’ll have no problem quickly finding that distinctive orange label — it’s not like those other boring champagne labels that all look alike. (And champagne is often an impulse buy!)
I also think Veuve Clicquot, as a mainstay champagne, just does a lot more advertising than the others – and often in a more clever way. I mean, who else could get a product placement into the stained glass windows at the Notre Dame in Reims (chuckle, chuckle)? Also, check out their Website. Pretty slick if you ask me.
What’s your favorite champagne?
And, oh, by the way, Happy New Year!
