A-Fraud Says It’s So

So it turns out that Alex Rodriguez was lying when he categorically denied using steroids, and while the rabid faithful of the New York Yankees will doubtless give him a pass after his confessional interview on ESPN, Nike may not be so forgiving.


Nike is the big name for A-Roid, paying him a cool million a year in a five-year deal that ends this year. When Nike signed the deal in 2005, it simultaneously revealed that it was cutting another steroid star, the Yankees’ Jason Giambi, from its roster. Pepsi had a deal with the slugger it already opted not to renew.

It will come as little surprise to you, the reader of this blog, that Mass Media is not so massive any longer. It is, apparently, a shock to the Mass Media outlets, however. They seemed to be stunned that ad revenues are declining. If emerging media has done nothing else, it has created sub-segments of segments and made one-to-one marketing much more real. more

Sully’s the Hero, Not USAir

USAir has gotten an undeserved publicity windfall from the exploits of pilot Chesley B. Sullenberger.


Yes, Sully landed a jet in the Hudson, and with everyone on board surviving. He deserves to be celebrated. But it doesn’t change my opinion.


USAir is a lousy airline, one of many. And it can’t market its way out of that fact even if it bills itself as the best at water landings. more
