Twitter Overload
I’m not really on Twitter much myself, so maybe this happens all the time. But when I logged on to Multichannel Merchant’s Twitter account this morning, a screen came up that said: “Twitter is over capacity. Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again.”
It didn’t take too long for the site to bounce back. But this got me thinking that Twitter’s system isn’t the only thing overloaded about the social media site. I am tired of Twitter.
I know, many people love it, and merchants are very interested in it. And maybe Twitter really will prove to be the key to using social media to drive sales.
(Although the only real effective commercial example I ever hear about is that food marketer in LA that sends tweets to customers to let them know where the Korean taco truck will be parked that day.)
But we have been writing about Twitter—there’s actually an article about it in the new issue of MCM—and on it ourselves for more than a year, and I am just about over it. Everywhere I look there’s that damn Twitter bird!
Sure, you could argue that I have yet to even embrace Twitter, but I don’t think the world needs my tweets. Do you really want to know what I’m doing all the time?
Before MCM’s page came up today I clicked on a link that for some reason brought me to recent random Twitter posts. Here are three of my favorites:
- Hurt myself. :(
- I hate school
- Sweetheart, I’m not asking you to prove anything to me. His tears already proved what he wants & where his heart is. Don’t tweet me.
Yeah, I can’t see myself ever being a big Twitter user outside of MCM stuff, but maybe I’ll change my tune. Perhaps I’m just cranky and need a vacation. Oh wait—I just came back from vacation.
