Merry Halloween
‘Tis the season for holiday food graft, so when a plain white, square box arrived from a vendor today, I tore into it with gusto. Was it Godiva? Hershey’s Kisses? Peppermint bark?
Imagine my surprise when I pulled out an orange plastic Jack O’lantern filled with Halloween candy. The front of the gift tag said “Happy Halloween Melissa.”
Two coworkers who had popped into my office burst out laughing. “Guess they got a good deal on those after the season,” said one.
I then started to wonder if the package had been sitting in our mailroom for six weeks. Was this a trick or a treat?
When I opened the gift card, it said: “OOPS! Melissa, getting purchases to your customers too late can be costly and scary. Get it right every time with Zero Disappointment Retail…”
The card, from supply chain systems vendor Manhattan Associates, directed me to a personalized Website where I could learn more about this Zero Disappointment Retail.
Now that’s a clever promotion. I love anything that cuts through the clutter and gets my attention—remember my funny Valentine from 2008? And I love candy.
