Letterman Takes a Cruise in NM Cupcake Car

Talk show host David Letterman took one of Neiman Marcus’s $25,000 cupcake cars for a spin around his set last week. And Dave put that cupcake through its paces, too—well, about as much as you can push a vehicle with a 24-volt electric motor that tops out at 7 mph.

The buyers at the high-end cataloger/retailer probably didn’t envision the drivers of the sweet little cupcake cars ramming into desks and toppling Christmas trees. But naturally, that’s what Dave did.

And I have to admit, it looked like fun, too—7 mph is faster than you might think, at least when you’re indoors. Maybe if one had an extra $100K lying around, it would be exciting to buy four cupcake cars and hold a smash ‘em up derby with them.

But as I noted in an earlier blog post, there’s really no way to make those cupcake cars look cool. Letterman joked that “if you buy it, it comes with a helmet that reads ‘a**hole.’”

Come on, Dave—the cars already come with matching hats. Sometimes you don’t need to spell it out…
