Burger King Going With Seattle’s Best? Bleah!

I’m probably in the minority when I say I’m a fan (or was a fan) of Burger King’s coffee, BK Joe. I wouldn;t seek it out, per se, but if given the option of having coffee at a fast-food restaurant, I’d get a cup at McDonald’s or BK.

But the five-year-old brand is dead. And it will be replaced by Seattle’s Best. Bleah! I grabbed a cup of coffee yesterday at the Internet Retailer Wed Design and Usability Conference at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando and remembered how awful that coffee actually is.

It’s owned by Starbucks, and tastes even more like Starbucks (think “dirt”) than ever. But it’s a deal that makes sense for both parties.

Burger King and McDonald’s try to one-up each other all the time, so if Burger King wants to up its game, it might as well mimic McCafe (and apparently that’s the BK Gameplan).

Meanwhile, if Starbucks can’t beat em’ (they’re losing share to McDonald’s and to Dunkin’ Donuts), they might as well team up with the competition and pray they can beat ‘em. How soon will Starbucks try to claim the top share in the world of coffee based on its store sales plus coffee sales at Burger King?

Come to think of it, the only reason of late that I’d eaten breakfast at Burger King was for its not-so-pleasing dollar menu. McDonald’s isn’t that great either (unless you want to clog your arteries with sausage), but the coffee is tops in my book.
