Brands Brought Back to Life
I just read a very interesting story on a team, investor C. Dean Metropoulos and his sons. Their specialty is bringing old brands back to life. They’ve done it with Bumble Bee Tuna, Gulden’s mustard and now appear ready to do it again with PBR.
Ask any beer-loving Milwaukeean what the number one domestic beer owned by a US company is, and you’ll hear Pabst quicker than you can pop the cans top. Its roots are in Milwaukee although I believe it is now contract brewed by MillerCoors and the brewery here in Milwaukee has long been shut down.
As I read the post I thought about other brands that are near their cemetery plots and those that have just plain disappeared and wondered what these guys could do with them. Brands like Max Factor, Circuit City, MBNA, Plymouth, Saturn, Saab, Hummer, Gettleman, Commadore, etc…
What brands do you miss and what names would again flourish if re-introduced??? Schlitz beer is doing very well since being brought back from the dead and I’m sure their are others that I’m not aware of.
I have to go now and begin my Memorial day celebrating. All this writing is making me thirsty. One Blatz, please.

Several brands come to mind that I wouldn’t mind seeing resurrected. PBR being one of them. PBR is one of the first beer brands along with Hamm’s that I can remember my dad and uncles drinking when I was little. I also miss Tropicana’s Twister in the larger bottle size (now only available in single servings). Woolworth’s, Montgomery Wards, Mr. Bubble, The Muppets, and The Wonderful World of Disney (on network tv) are just a few others. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
