It’s Summertime. Time to get Moving.
Upshot marketing agency is encouraging its employees to get into shape, or at least move off the couch.
The three month “Tour de Fit” requires staffers to track hours of physical activity and the number of steps they take each day with pedometers donated by Upshot client Omron Healthcare.
The fitness challenge also works as a team building effort, a smart move to encourage and strengthen personal and professional ties among the staff. Maybe more importantly, it fosters the competitive nature that agencies thrive on to win business and come up with campaigns that burst through the clutter.
Some 85% of the employees are participating, a nice showing. Those people were divided into 14 teams who, as if strategizing a new campaign for a client, brainstormed their plan of attack and came up with team names like Sole Train, Blood Sweat & Beers (let’s hope that team doesn’t get sidetracked at the local pub) and Gluteus Maximus.
A Web site logs participants’ time and steps and encourages some
“positive heckling” among the teams.
So what do they get for all this sweat equity? Unexpected prizes to keep the suspense going and three extra vacation days for the winning team.
Anybody else doing anything fun this summer for his or her staff? Let’s hear about it.
Now get to work on those pecks!
