It’s Official: McDonald’ Filet-O-Fish is a YouTube Sensation

Gimme back that Filet-O-Fish…

The bizarre Filet-o-Fish featuring the 1990s Big Mouth Billy Bass singing about the McDonald’s sandwich has had more than 1 million views (combined) on YouTube. more

April Fool’s… Ha, Ha, Ya Got Me…

Haaaaaa! OK, really, nothing huge has happened so far for April Fool’s Day. Marketers are being pretty tame, which is a good idea since we’re in a time when everyone (like me) is being testy and overreacting to every little thing.

Yeah, I did try to convince our company softball team that the Stamford rec department canceled the season. Yes, my status update on Facebook page says I’m going to a 10 a.m. spin class and a 7 p.m. book burning. But that’s harmless compared to some pranks I outlined last year for Chief Marketer. more

2008 May Have Stunk, But It Can At Least Still Be Award-Winning

Republic of TeaLook, your sales figures are down, and I’m sure your company’s overall morale is down, too. You may have put out the best kick-ass site (or kick-app, if it’s an e-commerce specimen), and your catalog redesign may have been the best thing to ever hit your customer’s mailboxes.

So instead of looking at red figures and harping on the negative, who don’t you spend a minor investment that could turn into a major morale booster. Enter your e-commerce site and your catalog - or both - in the 2009 MCM Awards. more

Onboard Something-or-Other and Rack-and-Peanut Steering

Homer's Dream CarWho knew back in 1991, when Powell Motors built “The Homer,” that the Big Three automotive companies would be in as much financial ruins as they are today?

I’m not surprised. I spent a few years covering automotive marketing for Promo, and could see how out-of-touch the industry was with American consumers. Sure, they had some way-cool product placement deals, but GM, Chrysler and Ford really haven’t made the consumer want to buy American. more

I Voted Today… Where’s My Donut?

Hot Vote NowCome on, Krispy Kreme! I know you’re 20 miles away from my home, and my job is 20 miles in the other direction. But I voted this morning and I’m soooo hungry! In fact, I know nothing about politics, I just want that free donut!

OK, That last part was made up. But as PROMO reports today, voting (or just saying you did) can get you some free stuff. I mean, if you proudly voted for Bush back in 2004 and got a “GWB” tramp-stamp, there’s even a place you can get that removed for free! more

“Face to Face Interfacing is Obsolete”

Anyone watch “King of the Hill” on Sunday? It definitely could have doubled as an infomercial for MySpace, which is coincidentally owned News Corp. (The parent company of Fox Broadcasting, too). The skinny: Strickland Propane was losing business to a rival that was using social networking. So the company launched its own MySpace page.

And of course, in typical Hank Hill fashion, the gang all learned how tough it is to maintain a place in cyberspace… and what could happen when a disgruntled former employee still controls the domain. more
